GE Integrates L/I into Leadership Development Program
Robert A. Cooke, Ph.D. and Linda Sharkey, Ph.D. recently published
“Developing Constructive Leader Impact” in a special leadership
development issue of Consulting Today. Rob, CEO of Human Synergistics
International and author of Leadership/Impact® (L/I), discusses his highly
regarded 360-feedback system and how it assesses the actual as well as the
ideal impact of leaders on the behavior and performance of others.
The insights
provided by L/I feedback can be used to identify strategies and techniques that
leaders can employ to cultivate the long-term effectiveness, performance, and
productivity of the organization and its members. Linda, who recently moved
from GE to accept the position of Vice President of People Development at
Hewlett-Packard, discusses her successes with and observations on the use of
L/I. Based on her experience at GE, she emphasizes that development programs
must be tailored to the organization and its business environment. For GE, this
meant engaging managers in Leadership/Impact as part of a larger appreciative
inquiry-based development strategy. Linda illuminates this idea as well as
others to ensure success with leadership development programs.
